Are you looking for an after-dinner or group speaker? Maybe I can help.

In my "Marines in Tights" talk, I explain the history, raison d'etre, uniform, weapons and equipment of the Duke of York & Albany's Maritime Regiment (also known as the Lord High Admiral's Regiment): the first English regiment raised specifically to serve on board ships and on land; ie. "marines".

I also narrate the circumstances of the invasion by the Dutch at Felixstowe on 2nd July 1667, the attack on Landguard Fort, the resulting battle and the outcomes (those that did happen and those that could have happened).

This is all presented in a light-hearted manner, whilst wearing the uniform, equipment and weapons. I also include origins and explanations of some phrases and surnames commonly used today, appropriate to the story and period.

All my talks have been given to and been well received by:

Rotary Clubs, Probus Clubs, specialist groups (History Societies, Arthritis Care, Engineering Societies, Classic & Vintage Car enthusiasts, etc.) , W.I.s, Ladies Guilds & Groups and schools throughout East Anglia. I already have bookings through to mid 2009!

I also give talks on:- "How English Surnames Began" (Why do we have surnames? What do they mean? etc.) , "English Idioms" (Those phrases we use all the time, but what do they mean and how did they start?), "Not Many People Know This ...." (Things you thought were true, but aren't!) and "Ghanaian Linguist Staffs" (See and feel the carved symbols! Do they have meanings for us today?)
